February Auxiliary News

We certainly had great attendance for our February meeting. It was good to hear the candidates speak. The fellowship was superb. Thanks to all the ladies for the extra food, and for the Legionnaire’s assistance in the kitchen.

The Valentines for Veterans Program was wonderful. A big thanks to Bonnie Pavalas, Diane Perrone, Leslie Martin, Gail Marion, Wanda Deiterich, and Legionnaires David Marion, Bob Ellis, Frank Kocman, Gerry and John Hince for brightening up the day of 156 Veterans. Mary Hanson’s art class from Sul Ross Elementary again made cards that were well received by the Veterans. Those few minutes that are spent with each Veteran are special, to them and certainly to us. Thanks to all who participated in any way. Your support of the Auxiliary and to the Veterans is encouraging. We again saw many pillows made by the Auxiliary in use and was thanked again for them. May we never be too busy to remember and acknowledge our Veterans.

A Sixth District DEC meeting and Leadership Training will be held Saturday, February 27th in Whitney. Wanda Deiterich and I will be attending.

We are looking forward to the Saturday, March 13th Legion Birthday Dance. You only have to remember the Christmas Dance to look forward to this one. For those who don’t dance, it is good to come hear the music, snack, visit, and watch those that do, Clarence and Viola Vitipol, Charlie and Regina Opersteny, Arby and Marie Wager all make it all look so easy and fun. Please support this for another great  evening.

My nine-year-old granddaughter Josie Wyatt will sing the National Anthem at the opening of our March meeting. I can only hope you are as moved as I was when I heard it on Veterans Day at Huntsville Elementary.

The Museum of the American GI located south of town across from the flea market will have open house all day March 19-20 with a World War II battle re-enactment at 2:00 pm Saturday, the 20th. Admission is $5.00 each, this being a fund-raiser for this non-profit. For any of you who have not seen it, this is incredible to observe. A dinner with Veterans among their armored vehicles will be Friday night, the 19th at 6:00 pm., the cost being $20.00 each. The featured speaker will be the living historian, Denny Hair, who is equally good. RSVP dinner at www.magicstx.org

Thanks again for your support and encouragement

                                                   For God and Country,
