Commander's Comments for December 2011
Greetings from Post
159. We had a wonderful Veterans Day Ceremony.
Our comrades from the VFW, DAV, and VVA joined
us as we remembered all of those men and women who have served our country in
uniform. It was generally agreed that
Lieutenant General Paul K. Carlton delivered an excellent address at the conclusion
of the Legion ceremony. Thanks to all
who made it a successful day.
On November 5 the Post
was well represented in the Veterans Day parade held in downtown Bryan. We had two floats, Legion Riders, and Troop
159 Boy Scouts all participating. Many
people contributed, but Rudy Cortez, Jr. deserves
the thanks of all of us for the work he did preparing the floats.
As we enter the
holiday season our lives become very busy. We will not have a December General Membership
meeting. Our Christmas Party will be at
the Post on Saturday, December 10. Hopefully we will have a good turn-out. We will be supporting Blue Christmas again
this year but we need the toys before December10. You can bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Post
any Thursday morning during the coffee and we will make sure it goes to a needy
child in our community. On December 7 members of the Auxiliary and Legion will meet
in the parking lot at 7 am for our annual trip to Temple VA. Please join us. On December 15 we will meet at the Post for Thursday morning coffee, preparing the
packages, and delivering them to veterans in local care facilities. We will need plenty of volunteers to help with
packing and deliveries.
Merry Christmas and
God bless each of you.
For God and Country,
John Hince
Commander
