Minutes for August 9, 2007

Convened: 6:05 p.m. Compiled by Simons.  Not present: Banta, Ellis, J. Hince, Prerz, and Toups.  Adjourned: 7:20 p.m.

Commander Marion called the meeting to order.  Opening prayer given by Chaplain Leach.  Commander Marion asked Past Commander Simons to swear in Historian Gerry Hince, and Executive Committee Members William Adams, and Wes Wynn for the Legion year 2007-2008.

Commander Marion then asked for reports.  Finance Officer Rathke Reported the audit will take place on August 13.  In addition $770.00 has been donated for Operation Landstuhl with more to come.  1st Vice Cmdr Hatton reported that 554 members have renewed for 58.8% of the goal for 2008 which is 942 members.  Service Officer Betties reported that the Post had established a Post Rehabilitation Board with Kocman, Rathke and Marion to set up a SOP for handling requests.  Historian G. Hince reported that a meeting with the high school principles and counselors will be on August 24 with a luncheon at our Post to explain local school opportunities for Boys State, Oratorical, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, School Awards, Flag Education, Sons of the American Legion and scholarship programs and activities.  The Family Support Group 159 will meet in September.  Historian Hince also reported on a request for Halloween items to send to the troops (candy, decorations, napkins, masks, etc.). Trustee Walker reported that the OReilly’s lease is slowly making progress with the city permit department.

Commander Marion read a request from Blinn College and after discussion 2nd Vice Cmdr Wilson moved that the trustees be authorized to negotiate a lease allowing for training truck drivers on our vacant lots if the details can be worked out, and after a review by our Judge Advocate.  Seconded by Legionnaire Shelby.  Motion carried.

Commander Marion then reappointed members of our committees for Legion 2007-2008.  He appointed Legionnaire Wes Wynn as webmaster.  Legionnaire Simons identified the following 2008 new members: Luis Alamo; John Albers; Loraine Armstrong; Brian Burk; August Koch; Antonio Medina; Brian Parker; O. L. Pate; Erik Rathke; Tim Williams and asked that you welcome them to our Post.

Commander Marion called on Chaplain Leach for a closing prayer.  The meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
