Our Post, on Sunday 13 April, recognized twelve outstanding and accomplished Aggie Cadets on Kyle Field. It was my privilege to present American Legion medals to the following cadets:
Military Excellence:
Seniors: Arcadio Avalos, Army; Derek Randall, Navy; Sean Waltman, Air Force;
Juniors: Amber Cullop, Army; Jeffrey Legg, Navy; Justin Bateman, Air Force;
Academic Excellence:
Seniors: Randall Davis, Army; Andrew Harris, Navy; Mary Diamond, Air Force;
Juniors: Karthik Venkatra, Army; Julie Pate, Navy; Mason Locke, Air Force.
It was an opportunity for our Post to recognize these fine young men and women in a public setting. The American Legion also was seen, by several thousand people, in support of these young cadets.
Take me out to the Ballgame: Military Appreciation at Olsen Field with Aggie Baseball. Military personnel and Veterans will be guest of Aggie Baseball Team on Friday 2 May 08. Come to the game wearing your Legion cap and a blue shirt. Please be at Olsen Field by 1745 hr. We will assemble NLT 1800 hr. behind Left field bleachers (3rd base gate) at the Indoor Batting Facility.
Wounded Warriors: There might be a group of Wounded Warriors from Brook Army Medical Center with us before the game. Legionnaire Brian Parker is working on the details as this goes to print. If possible, with enough advance notice I want to have a “welcome rank” of Legionnaires to meet them when they arrive.
Boys State: Sixteen young men will be delegates from Post 159, and we need your help raising funds for scholarships. Full support for one boy requires $275.00, you may help us with a donation of any amount to support this worthwhile Americanism activity. Please put “Boys State” in memo on your check and give or send it to Post Finance Officer at P. O. Box 326, Bryan, TX 77806. Legionnaire Wes Wynn, who himself attended Boys State, is our Post Chairman. Please contact him if you have a question.
As of 18 Apr 08 we have 946 members or 100.40 of our 942 membership goal. Thank you to all Legionnaires that helped First Vice Commander Russell Hatton make our 2008 membership GOAL! If you want to consider becoming a Paid-Up-for-Life (PUFL) member, ask our Adjutant to sign you up. One time dues payment and you will not have future increases with LIFE MEMBERSHIP (PUFL).
The May meal will be ham. In March, you brought 38 pounds for food bank. Please remember to bring canned and non-perishable items to the next meeting for the Brazos Food Pantry.
A Veteran, whether active duty, retired, National Guard or reserve, is someone who at one time in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to and including their life.” That is Honor, and there are too many people in this county who don’t understand this, or worse do not appreciate it or in some do not care. For God and Country,
